Our Adventures in Colorado: A Shed Hunting Expedition

We recently had the incredible opportunity to embark on a shed hunting adventure together in the stunning landscapes of Colorado. The mission was simple yet exciting: search for elk and mule deer sheds in the breathtaking mountain terrain. Over three grueling days, we hiked approximately 20 miles, conquering rugged trails and challenging elevations while creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Climbing Mountains and Facing Challenges

From the moment we set off, our excitement was palpable. The crisp mountain air filled our lungs as we navigated through lush forests and rocky paths. With each step, the beauty of Colorado unfolded around us—towering peaks kissed by the sun, valleys blanketed in wildflowers, and crystal-clear streams winding through the landscape. 

But our adventure was not without its challenges. As we climbed higher, the elevation took its toll, and exhaustion threatened to slow us down. However, we relied on each other for motivation and support. We pushed one another to tackle the next hill or navigate through the next bend, finding strength in our shared determination. The camaraderie we cultivated made every exhausting mile worth it.

A Shed Hunter’s Reward

We were out there for the thrill of the hunt, and our persistence paid off. Over the course of our three days, we uncovered two impressive elk sheds, a stunning trophy from our journey. In addition, we found an astounding 15 mule deer sheds and even discovered a remarkable deadhead shed—a skeletonized skull of a deer that became one of the highlights of our adventure. While I found some of these treasures, Chris took the lead with most of the finds. Every shed we collected became a shared victory that we celebrated together, a testament to our hard work and dedication.

 Wildlife Encounters

What would a trip to Colorado be without wildlife? As we wandered through the wilderness, we observed about 50 elk grazing in the meadows, alongside several mule deer gracefully navigating their territory. Encountering these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat was a highlight of our trip and reminded us of our passion for the outdoors and the connection we share with nature.

Scenic Splendor

The scenery throughout our adventure was simply breathtaking. Each vista we encountered seemed more beautiful than the last—sprawling mountain ranges, vibrant sunsets casting hues of orange and pink across the sky, and serene meadows teeming with life. We took countless photographs, but none could truly capture the magic of being immersed in such beauty. These moments rejuvenated our spirits and provided the perfect backdrop for the experiences we shared.

Reflecting on Our Journey

As we wrapped up our shed hunting adventure, we couldn’t help but feel grateful for the time we spent together. Beyond the physical demands of the trek, we forged a deeper bond through our shared struggles and triumphs. Every sore muscle was worth it, and every shed we found became a cherished reminder of our adventure together.

Colorado has a unique way of captivating visitors, and our journey was no exception. The mountains taught us resilience, the wildlife reminded us of the beauty of nature, and our companionship made it an unforgettable experience. As we headed back home, we carried with us not only our prized sheds but also a renewed appreciation for the outdoors and the connection we cultivate with each other.
